Frequently asked questions
Does Freelance Budget handle UK VAT?
Yes. Quarterly VAT (the standard regime for most UK businesses) is pre-configured with the 7th of the second month following the period end as the filing deadline, on an accrual basis.
Sole Trader or Ltd Company — which one fits me?
Both are supported. Sole Trader has lower social charges (~9%) but unlimited liability; Ltd Company is taxed at corporation tax + dividends/salary mix and has limited liability. The app handles both with the right defaults.
Does the app handle GBP?
Yes. GBP is the default currency for UK entities, but you can invoice clients in other currencies (EUR, USD, etc.) — Freelance Budget tracks the exchange and the realized cash.
Is HMRC compliance handled?
VAT calculations and deadlines are correct, and you can export the data needed for your accountant. We don't (yet) submit to HMRC directly — that's a planned integration.
